A fever dream is a heightened dream state marked by intense emotions, distorted perceptions, and surreal narratives.
Viraj Khanna draws from his subconscious and the sum of his life experiences to create carnivalesque, non-realistic figures. Surrounded by textiles and embroidery from an early age, he extends traditional techniques into contemporary art.
With a base of collage, Viraj Khanna uses beads, pearls and other materials to give structure to his figurative work. His figures embody the contradictions of human behaviour; flamboyance concealing vulnerability. He encourages viewers to look beyond spectacle and glean the deeper motivations within each other. His practice sits at the intersection of contemporary Indian art and craft, fusing wit, colour and texture to reflect the colourful complexity of human nature.
